Motherhood Monday: It's Ironic Really...

It's ironic really, considering all of the problems Claire and I had with breastfeeding...and now here we are with a new problem! Claire will NOT take a bottle. Flat out NO. She will go on a hunger strike and protest, just WON'T EAT. Obviously we don't let her do this and she will get boob, but it makes it really hard for Dad to give her a bottle, and for me to get a break! See Claire normally gets one bottle a day, and during that time Daddy feeds her, burps her, changes her, and play/nap's with her so I get a good solid chunk of time to myself. IT IS SO GREAT! Don't get me wrong I love breastfeeding, but all mom's need a break from time to time! But all of a sudden Claire just started refusing the bottle. Screaming when it was put in her mouth in fact. Of course this protest had to start when we were away in Whistler for my best friends stagette, and I was out at night with her...poor Dad. He eventually got her to eat, but it was not fun for either of them and I couldn't relax and have fun. I kept texting him every 20 minutes to check in. This wouldn't be a huge deal if it weren't for the fact that I am the Maid of Honor in a wedding this September, and it is a child free wedding. GAH! So, fellow mom's, HELP! Any advice or tips on how to get a breastfed baby to take a bottle?

  1. I'm not a mom, so I have no breastfeeding experience, but I just wanted to say that I think your family is so precious. And you're a lucky woman to have such a helpful papa. I love reading your posts.

  2. Could it be the type of teet thingy on the bottle? Could you use a different type Again not a mother I'm just putting an idea out there

  3. My friend has a 5 month old, and her babe had issues with the type of bottle and type of nipple on it. They tried a bunch of different ones before they found one that the baby liked....you may want to give that a go:)

    Good luck:P

  5. Are you feeding her breastmilk in the bottle or formula? Maybe she is upset at getting a different kind of milk?

Or it could be the type of nipple you're using. Is there one that would simulate a breast more? Maybe she's just worried and upset at the difference in texture.

  6. I'd agree with the other ladies, try a different nipple on the bottle, one that is close to a breast nipple. Also this might sound a bit weird but get your hubby to wear your dressing gown while he feeds Claire. It will smell like you and milk and might help. Maybe not in public though hehe. Good Luck xo
